Barracuda and sharks--the main predators of bonefish--are often seen while fishing for bonefish--especially at the Joulters. Fishing for barracuda with fly gear can be a lot of fun. Barracuda put up a terrific fight and often jump--unlike bonefish. They have big teeth and caution is advised when landing them.
Andros is one of the few places that still has many different species of sharks. At this time fishing for sharks is not really encouraged to help protect the species since they are now extinct at many other locations.
An 8 weight rod is adequate for barracuda using a twelve inch wire leader. The typical fly is a size 2 fly imitating a needlefish or other common prey.
